Commonwealth Day Concert, 1938


The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (wearing the Gloucester Diamond Necklace Tiara) joined King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (wearing the Cartier Halo Tiara and Queen Alexandra’s Wedding Necklace) for the Empire Day Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on this day in 1938. 

The King and Queen attend a concert on Empire Day at the Royal Albert Hall, on the lines of that given by King George V’s command in 1935. The concert was be broadcast at home, and to the Empire. Choral delegates from some 200 choirs in England, Scotland, Ireland Wales and the Channel Islands were invited. These joined with 550 members of the Royal Albert Hall choir, and other choir societies of Greater London. It was also possible to include a small contingent, representative of the Dominions.
