Lady Pamela Mountbatten, Baron Brabourne, and Doreen Knatchbull, the Dowager Baroness Brabourne joined the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh as they attended the famous Bertram Mills Christmas Circus at Olympia in London on this day in 1952, following which the Queen met performers, toured the stables and received flowers from clown Percy Huxter. This was the first visit to the Bertram Mills Christmas Circus by the Queen and Duke after her Accession earlier that year, and they returned to visit the Circus in 1955, 1960, and 1965.
This was the final public engagement undertaken by the Queen and Duke in 1952, the year of her Accession to the Throne, which included visits around the United Kingdom, new Official Portraits, and a Royal Holiday at Balmoral.

She was such a beautiful, young Queen. She really had to start out of the gate as she meant to go forward. She had a very good Prime Minister and her parents raised her to be the Queen she became. She always knew it wasn’t about her, it was for the nation and ultimately, for the world. We were lucky to have her example in our time. She was the epitome of wisdom and elegance.
