The Queen (wearing the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara and George VI Sapphire Parure) and Princess Margaret (in the Cartier Halo Tiara) attend the Coming-Out Ball for Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart (now Goldsmith), daughter of the Marquess of Londonderry, and Lady Carey Coke, daughter of the Earl and Countess of Leicester, at Londonderry House on Park Lane on this day in 1952, during the first London Season after the Queen’s Accession.

The Queen And Princess Margaret Smile At The Crowd Outside Londonderry House Last Night More Than 1 000 People The Majority Of Them Women Broke Through Police Cordons And Surged Round The Car In Which The Queen And Princess Margaret Arrived At Londonderry House Last Night. With Difficulty The Police Forced Back The Cheering Crowd To Permit The Queen And The Princess To Leave The Car And Walk Up The Steps Beneath The Awning To Attend The Coming-out Ball Given For Lady Annabel Stewart Younger Daughter Of Lord Londonderry And For Lady Carey Coke 18 Year Old Second Daughter Of Lord And Lady Leicester. The Crowd Which Had Been Gathering Since 7.30 Had Been Kept To The Pavements. But When The Royal Car Swung Round From Park Lane And The Crowd Saw The Queen And Her Sister Both Wearing Diamond Tiaras Sitting In The Brightly Lit Interior Of The Car They Burst Across The Roadway.
