Next week, Queen Sirikit of Thailand will celebrate her 90th Birthday! The glamorous Princess who became the popular Thai Queen Consort for almost 70 years and is now the much respected Queen Mother, Queen Sirikit possesses an incredible jewellery collection, and so for the next few days leading up to her Birthday, we are going to be featuring some of the most prominent pieces from Queen Sirikit’s Collection, starting with her spectacular Diamond Bracelets!
There are at least eight spectacular Diamond Bracelets composed of large diamonds set in a dense traditional Thai Style and are likely old Royal Heirlooms, possibly the same bracelets worn by a Thai Prince in the 1870s and also the Diamond Bracelets worn by King Ananda Mahidol, the elder brother of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Queen Sirikit began wearing the Diamond Bracelets in the 1950s, and they made a series of prominent appearances on the King and Queen’s landmark Tour of Europe and North America for much of 1960, wearing them when photographed by the King while trying on her soon-to-be legendary Balmain wardrobe,
Queen Sirikit often wore the Diamond Bracelets with her Thai Tiara, Diamond Bandeau Tiara, and Diamond Fringe Necklace for most of the Banquets while on the Tour, also wearing them with Thai Dress.
While the Bracelets continued to be worn for Galas and Portraits after their return to Thailand, by the mid-1960s, appearances of the Diamond Bracelets began to decline and after a final appearance in a portrait at some point in the 1970s, the Bracelets disappeared from public view and were not seen for decades.
However, Queen Suthida notably wore two of the Thai Diamond Bracelets with Queen Sirikit’s Sapphire Suite and a Diamond Aigrette for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023, and there is no doubt they will be worn again soon!

Lets hope they make a public appearence again soon!

I’ve always admired HM Queen Sirikit, especially for having helped revitalize Thai traditional Silk production. She had modern dress designers use Thai silks in modern designs for her trips abroad. At the royal palace in Bangkok there is even a museum dedicated to her work with Thai silk, which features many of her iconic dresses. http://www.qsmtthailand.org/
