Christening of Prince Michael of Kent, 1942

Norwegian, Greek, and Dutch Royal Guests and Relatives joined the extended British Royal Family for the Christening of Prince Michael of Kent, youngest son of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, in the Private Chapel of Windsor Castle on this day in 1942 (80 years ago), which came just a few weeks before Prince George’s death in a plane crash later that month.

Prince Michael’s godparents were: King George VI (uncle), Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands (represented by her son-in-law, Prince Bernhard), King Haakon VII of Norway (great-uncle), President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Crown Princess Frederica of Greece (represented by her brother-in-law, King George II of Greece), Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (uncle), Princess Victoria, Marchioness of Milford Haven (first cousin twice-removed), and Lady Patricia Ramsay (first cousin twice-removed). Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, Princess Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha of Norway, Princess Helena Victoria and Princess Marie Louise were also present alongside the parents, siblings and godparents of Prince Michael.
