King Haakon VII’s Centenary Gala, 1972

Queen Ingrid of Denmark (in her Pearl and Diamond Corsage), Crown Prince Carl Gustaf of Sweden and Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Denmark joined King Olav V and Crown Princess Sonja of Norway (in Queen Alexandra’s Diamond Chandelier Earrings) at the Gala for the Centenary of the Birth of King Haakon VII of Norway at the Akershus Fortress in Oslo on this day in 1972, which followed a Service at Oslo Cathedral. Born Prince Carl of Denmark, King Haakon VII was selected to be the Norwegian King in 1905, becoming a national symbol of the Norwegian Resistance during the Second World War before he passed away in 1957.
