Dutch State Visit to Austria, 1962

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will begin a State Visit to Austria tomorrow, so we are taking a look at the last Dutch State Visit to Austria, which took place exactly 60 years ago, in May 1962. The highlight of the visit was the magnificent State Banquet hosted by Austrian President Adolf Schärf in honour of Queen Juliana (wearing the Stuart Tiara) and Prince Bernhard at the Schönbrunn Palace, with Crown Princess Beatrix (in the Antique Pearl Tiara) and Princess Irene (wearing Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara) also in attendance.

The Dutch Royal Family had hosted President Adolf Schärf the previous year, which included a Gala Performance with Queen Juliana (in the Mellerio Ruby Tiara) and the Prince in the Royal Theatre as well as a Return Gala in honour of the Queen (wearing the Dutch Diamond Stars), Prince Bernhard, Crown Princess Beatrix (in the  Antique Pearl Tiara) and Princess Irene (wearing the Aquamarine Tiara) at the Residence of the Austrian Ambassador.
