Jordanian State Visit to Britain, 2001

The British Royal Family welcomed King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan on their State Visit to Britain on this day in 2001, 45 years after the last Jordanian State Visit, of his parents, King Hussein and Princess Muna Al Hussein, in 1966. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have made only one State Visit to Jordan, in 1984, but their have been multiple official visits by other members of the Royal Family and more private visits by the Jordanian Royal Family to the United Kingdom, with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall scheduled to visit Jordan later this month. Today marks the Centenary of the Birth of Princess Fawzia of Egypt, who was born on this day 100 years ago! The stunning Egyptian Princess who became the first Queen of the last Shah of Iran, Princess Fawzia later returned to Egypt and becoming the oldest member of the deposed Muhammad Ali Dynasty residing in Egypt, and continued to possess her splendid jewellery collection. Royal Family at COP26

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are the COP26 United Nations Climate Change Summit in Glasgow this week. The Queen was originally scheduled to attend but cancelled a few days ago following orders from her doctors to rest, instead digitally delivering an address to the assembled delegates. The COP26 Summit in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November brings together delegates from 200 countries and is widely seen as one of the last opportunities to get control of the goals of the Paris Accord, with the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge, and his recent Earthshot Prize, at the forefront of those conversations. Princess Elizabeth in Washington, D.C, 1951

Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived for a two-day trip to Washington, D.C on this day in 1951, during their extensive Tour of Canada, different phases of which we are individually covering over the next few weeks. Following a busy Summer, with the Opening of the Festival of Britain, the Danish State Visit, the Norwegian State Visit, the Tour of Canada was the first sign of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke, who had given up his Naval Careerbecoming full-time working Royals in the last few months of King George VI’s life, ahead of her Accession to the Throne.  Continue reading
