Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is celebrating her 50th Birthday next week, so in our typical fashion, we are featuring her Top 5 Jewels in the days leading up to her Birthday! While Queen Máxima has worn much of the massive jewellery collection of the House of Orange, we are focusing on many of the splendid modern jewels that Queen Máxima has acquired during the past 20 years as a member of the Dutch Royal Family, continuing with Queen Máxima’s Garnet Tassel Earrings!
Featuring many strands of beaded garnets tied together with three strands of pave-set diamond bands, these Garnet Tassel Earrings have been in Queen Máxima’s jewellery box since at least 2011, making them possibly gifts for her 40th Birthday.
One of the most notable appearences of the Garnet Tassel Earrings was in 2013, when Queen Máxima paired them with the Dutch Diamond Stars (which we will feature later in the series) and a splendid Jan Taminiau gown, for a River Pagent and Gala Dinner following the Inauguration of King Willem-Alexander.
Another notable appearance came at Prinsjesdag, the annual Opening of the Dutch Parliament, in 2015, when Queen Máxima wore the Garnet Tassel Earrings with another marvelous Jan Taminiau gown, inspired by wallpaper at the Huis ten Bosch Palace.
The Garnet Tassel Earrings have continue to be worn for all sorts of occasions over the past decade, from official engagements, to evening events, tours, and also visits in her role as United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, as well as calls and engagements during the pandemic. These is no doubt we will continue to see these versatile jewels worn for years to come!
