The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are hosted by King Khalid on their State Visit to Saudi Arabia on this day 1979, after visiting Kuwait and Bahrain during their six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we are covering in depth all month). Events included an Official Welcome, a Picnic in the Desert, Camel Racing and a State Dinner hosted by the King in honour of the Queen (in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara) and Duke at the Maathar Palace in Riyadh, while the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke hosted a Return Dinner in honour of the Saudi Royals on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
