The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are hosted by Emir Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah of Kuwait during their State Visit to Kuwait on this day 1979, at the start of a six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we will be covering in depth all month). Events included an Official Welcome, a Tour of the newly-built Kuwait Towers, a day at the Races, and State Dinner hosted by the Emir in honour of the Queen (wearing the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara and her Brazilian Aquamarines), who invested her host with the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, and reciprocated with a Return Dinner on the Royal Yacht Britannia..
