King Baudouin of Belgium announces his engagement to Spanish Aristocrat Dona Fabiola de Mora y Aragon at the Royal Palace of Brussels on this day in 1960. After waving to the crowds from the Balcony of the Palace and the Brussels Town Hall, the couple rode through the streets of Brussels and laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. King Baudouin married Queen Fabiola that December, and the couple remained happily married, albeit childless, until his death in 1993.
