The Wedding of Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein, son of Prince Franz Joseph and Princess Gina of Liechtenstein, and Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg, (wearing the Congo Diamond Necklace Tiara) the daughter of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg and Princess Joséphine Charlotte of Belgium, at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg on this day in 1982, following their Wedding Ball at the Grand Ducal Palace. It was the last match between members of two reigning royal families, and came just weeks after the Wedding of her sister, Princess Marie-Astrid, and Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria. The couple have three children: Princess Maria-Anunciata of Liechtenstein, Princess Marie-Astrid of Liechtenstein, and Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechtenstein.

I am surprised that they were allowed to marry in Lent. Does anyone know why? The wedding dress and headpiece, while very suitable for this Bride, are very much indicative of the 1980’s. Ruffles galore!
