The Wedding of Princess Mary of the United Kingdom, only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, and Viscount Lascelles, heir of the Earl of Harewood, at Westminster Abbey in London on this day in 1922. It was the first wedding of a child of a monarch at the Abbey since 1290. The bridal party included Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who was to become the bride’s sister-in-law the following year. The Earl and Countess of Harewood had two children, and remained happily married until his death in 1947. She remained an active member of the Royal Family, and passed away in 1965.
