Happy Birthday to Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg! The second daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and Ingrid of Sweden, Princess Benedikte was born during the Nazi occupation of Denmark. Her elder sister is Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, younger sister is Queen Anne Marie of Greece, and first cousin is King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. In 1968, she married Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, and moved to Berleburg Castle in Germany, while still continuing to undertake her official duties. The couple had three children, and remained happily married until his sudden death earlier this year. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday, with many Happy Returns!
