The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are hosted by King Khalid on their State Visit to Saudi Arabia on this day 1979, after visiting Kuwait and Bahrain during their six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we are covering in depth all month). Events included an Official Welcome, a Picnic in the Desert, Camel Racing and a State Dinner hosted by the King in honour of the Queen (in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara) and Duke at the Maathar Palace in Riyadh, while the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke hosted a Return Dinner in honour of the Saudi Royals on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

  1. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
