Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived in the City of Ottawa during their extensive Tour of Canada on this day in 1951, different phases of which we are individually covering over the next few weeks. Following a busy Summer, with the Opening of the Festival of Britain, the Danish State Visit, the Norwegian State Visit, the Tour of Canada was the first sign of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke, who had given up his Naval Careerbecoming full-time working Royals in the last few months of King George VI’s life, ahead of her Accession to the Throne.  Continue reading

Princess Dagmar’s Diamond Floral Tiara

Today marks the 60th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Dagmar of Denmark, Mrs Castenskjold, who passed away on this day in 1961! The fourth daughter and youngest child of King Frederick VIII of Denmark and Princess Louise of Sweden and Norway, Princess Dagmar was the sister of King Christian X of Denmark, King Haakon VII of Norway, and Princess Ingeborg of Sweden. In 1922, she married Jørgen Castenskjold, a member of the Danish Nobility and son of the Royal Danish Court Chamberlain, Though Princess Dagmar did not marry into a Royal Family, she often attended extended Danish Royal Family events, usually wearing her Diamond Floral Tiara! Queen Isabella II’s Castillos y Leones Tiara

Today marks the anniversary of the birth of Queen Isabel II of Spain, who was born on this day in 1830! Isabel was the eldest surviving daughter of King Fernando VII and his wife and niece, Maria Cristina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. She became Queen of Spain at the early age of 3, after the death of her father. The reign of the “queen of sad fates” was marked by a great political turmoil that ended in the queen’s Parisian exile in 1868, after the Glorious Revolution. Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee

In January, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Accession to the Danish Throne, after the Death of her father, King Frederick IX of Denmark in 1972. The Danish Royal Court has just announced a series of exciting events in mid-January to mark Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee, which will also include many Foreign Royal Guests in addition to the extended Danish Royal Family. The Jubilee will also be marked with events in several places throughout the country, with a number of interviews, TV documentaries and book releases tell about her life and work.  Continue reading
