The Prince of Wales hosted the first annual Garden Party of 2022 at Buckingham Palace on May 11th, for the first time since 2019. There are usually four annual Garden Parties hosted by the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyrood House for around 30,000 guests yearly, as well as a few special others, though the Queen has announced in advance that she will not be attending any of the Garden Parties this year. The Prince of Wales, joined by the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of Cambridge, in his role as a Councillor of State, represented the Queen at the Official Opening of the Session of Parliament in the Chamber of the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster in London on May 10th. This was a ‘dressed down’ version of the State Opening, devoid of pageantry and ceremony, like the State Openings in 2019 and 2021, with the last ‘proper’ State Opening in 2019.The Queen has pulled out of this year’s State Opening due to her ongoing mobility issues.
Royal Families from around the world joined the British Royal Family for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Memorial Service at Westminster Abbey on March 29th, to celebrate the life and legacy of the extraordinary public figure that was HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, after his Funeral last April had to be modified due to the Pandemic.
The Prince of Wales is in Barbados to attend the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony to mark Barbados’ transition from a Kingdom to a Republic within the Commonwealth, following almost four centuries of rule by a British Monarch. Barbados is not the first Commonwealth Realm to become a Republic. Since the start of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth II, she has been removed as Queen of 18 Nations, almost always peacefully. She remains Queen of 15 Commonwealth Realms. The Prince has been invited to the Ceremony in his role as the future Head of the Commonwealth. Continue reading
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were on an Official Visit to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from November 16th to the 18th, at the invitation of the Jordanian Royal Family and at the request of the British Government, to celebrate the Centenary of Jordan and the UK-Jordan bilateral relationship.
