Continuing our series of features on the major European Auction Houses’ annual autumn Royal and Noble Jewellery Sales, here are the Royal and Noble Highlights from the Sotheby’s Treasures Sale in Geneva. The Three Lots are said to possibly originate from Empress Joséphine of France (who may have been given them from her sister-in-law, Queen Caroline of Naples, and were acquired by Lord Lascelles, “ Beau Lascelles” likely from the Empress left to his grand-niece Catherine, Mrs Granville Edwin Lloyd-Baker, thence by family descent to the present owner. Queen Marie Antoinette’s Diamond Bracelets

Today marks the 170th Anniversary of the death of Princess Marie Thérèse of France, Duchess of Angoulêmewho died on this day in 1851! Madame Royale was the eldest daughter of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette and the only one who survived the revolution and reached adulthood. In 1799, she married her first cousin, Louis Antoine, Duke de Angoulême and the couple served as King and Queen of France for approximately 20 minutes in 1830. To mark the anniversary, we are featuring Queen Marie Antoinette’s Diamond Bracelets, that will be auctioned at Christie’s next month. Continue reading
