The Duke and Duchess of Kent joined the Queen for the Royal Film Premiere of ‘Born Free’ at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square on this day in 1966, 60 years!
The Queen was joined by the Duke and Duchess of Kent as she attends the Royal Film Premiere of ‘Born Free’ at the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square, in aid of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.
On March 14, 1966, when the final frames of Born Free faded from the magnificent screen of the Odeon Leicester Square and the lights rose slowly on an auditorium where Queen Elizabeth II sat alongside Prince Edward and Katharine Duchess of Kent, the applause that filled that storied space was the applause of an audience that sensed, perhaps without yet having the words for it, that they had witnessed something that would outlast the evening, outlast the season…
The Queen wore the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara and the Cambridge Emeralds.
The Duchess of Kent wore Queen Mary’s Diamond Crochet Bandeau.
