Min Stora Dag Party at the Royal Palace of Stockholm

Princess Madeleine and Princess Leonore of Sweden held a Tea Party for her patronage Min Stora Dag at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on this day in 2016, 10 years ago, which is one of our favourite Royal Engagements.

Princess Leonore joined Princess Madeleine of Sweden as she hosted seriously ill children for the Min Stora Dag Tea Party at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The children dined off antique china, were served by liveried footmen, and sat next to a Princess in a tiara. What else could you need at a royal tea party?

Princess Madeleine and My Special Day (Min Stora Dag in Swedish) invited children to a fairy tale party at the Royal Palace. The vision of My Special Day is that “All children with serious illnesses in Sweden should be a part of something positive out of the ordinary that provides power and self-esteem.” Princess Madeleine is the patron of My Special Day.

In 2016, Princess Madeleine held a tea party at the palace for her patronage Min Stora Dag, a Swedish equivalent to Make a Wish which gives seriously ill children special experiences. This alone was special – a royal themed tea party at a real life palace – but Princess Madeleine went the extra mile by turning up in her outfit from the 2015 Nobel Prize events: a Fadi El-Khoury gown and the stunning aquamarine tiara.

Leonore and I had a wonderful afternoon with children from Min Stora Dag. We were all dressed up!

Lots of children dream of fairytale princes and princesses which is far from the reality of most princes and princesses today. I’m sure the kids get over it but there have many times when they’ve been a little disappointed the princess they imagined was in a suit and not a Disney gown. So Madeleine decided to give them true Princess. Her outfit from the most important event in the Swedish calendar. And she got down on the ground to play with the kids, with no concern for the priceless tiara she’s wearing or her luxurious gown. This is still one of my favourite ever engagements and in her fashion choices Madeleine went above and beyond to give the children their dream day.
