The Danish Royal Family celebrated Christening of Princess Benedikte of Denmark at the Holmens Kirke in Copenhagen on this day in 1944, 80 years ago, during the Nazi Occupation of Denmark.
Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Ingrid of Denmark were joined by Princess Margrethe for the Christening of Princess Benedikte at the Holmens Kirke.
Princess Benedikte’s godparents (most of which were unable to be physically present) were King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (her paternal grandparents); Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom. King Gustav V of Sweden (maternal great-grandfather), Count Sigvard Bernadotte (maternal uncle); Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark (paternal aunt); Princess Ingeborg of Sweden (paternal grand-aunt); Princess Margaretha of Sweden (her father’s first cousin); Sir Alexander Ramsay (maternal grand-uncle) and Prince Gustav of Denmark (paternal grand-uncle).
