Just days after debuting the Queen’s Cartier Gold and Sapphire Flower Brooches for the Royal Maundy Service at Worcester Cathedral, Queen Camilla has brought out a another royal heirloom for the Easter Sunday Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle; Queen Mary’s Emerald and Sapphire Flower Brooch!
A striking diamond set within petal soft emerald and sapphires in the shape of a flower, the exact origin of the Brooch is known, and it does not seem to among Queen Mary’s extensive wedding gifts, but seems to have been in her collection during her tenure as Princess of Wales.
Queen Mary most notably wore this Brooch in 1909, when received the Russian Imperial Family on the Isle of Wright during Cowes Week, at which time a series of portraits were taken by Arthur William Debenham.
Upon her death in 1953, the Emerald and Sapphire Flower Brooch was among the jewels left by Queen Mary to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, who most notably wore it for the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 1997.
In 2012, the Emerald and Sapphire Flower Brooch was among the jewels photographed for Angela Kelly’s book ‘Dressing The Queen’, being placed between Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch and the Cambridge Pearl Brooch.
Following the late Queen’s death in 2022, the Emerald and Sapphire Flower Brooch was among the massive haul of jewels inherited by King Charles, first appearing on Queen Camilla for the Easter Sunday Service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle today! Let’s hope we see it worn again soon!
Queen Camilla has been debuting several royal heirlooms in recent weeks, which have included the Queen Mother’s Cartier Bracelets, the Greville Ivy Leaf Clips, Queen Alexandra’s Aquamarine and Diamond Brooch, and the Queen’s Cartier Gold and Sapphire Flower Brooches. May this continue!
Credit to British Royal Jewels for first identifying this brooch!
