Dutch State Visit to Iran, 1963

The Shah of Iran and Empress Farah hosted Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands on their State Visit to Iran on this day in 1963, 60 years ago, which came as a response to the Iranian Royal Couple attending Queen Juliana’s Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebrations in 1962.

Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands were welcomed by the Shah of Iran and Empress Farah at the Airport in Tehran with a Guard of Honour.

In the evening, the Shah of Iran and Empress Farah (in the Seven Emerald Tiara) hosted a spectacular State Banquet for Queen Juliana (wearing the Mellerio Ruby Tiara), Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix (in the Dutch Emerald Tiara) at the Golestan Palace in Tehran.

The Shah and Empress Farah (in the Noor-ol-Ain Tiara) also hosted another spectacular Banquet for Queen Juliana (wearing the Stuart Tiara) and Prince Bernhard, as well as Princess Beatrix (in Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara).

Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix viewed the Iranian Crown Jewels at the Central Bank of Tehran, and visited an orphanage for orphans from the earthquake in Persia, as well as touring many historic Iranian sites in Shiraz and Persepolis.

Queen Juliana (in the Dutch Sapphire Tiara), Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix (wearing the Antique Pearl Tiara) also hosted a Return Banquet for the Shah of Iran and Empress Farah (in the Noor-ol-Ain Tiara) in Tehran.
