Today marks the Anniversary of the Death of Queen Victoria of Sweden, who died on this day in 1930! Born Princess Viktoria of Baden, she brought a plethora of jewels into the Swedish Royal Family when she married the future King Gustav V of Sweden in 1881, including this Pearl and Diamond Ivy Brooch!

Consisting of a diamond Ivy Leaf with a central white pearl, from which three pearls can be suspended, this diamond brooch is a versatile piece which can also be worn as the pendant on a necklace.
The provenance of the Ivy Brooch is unknown but it was first pictured on the then Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden for a portrait at some point in the 1890s, before she became the Swedish Queen in 1907.

After Queen Victoria’s death in 1930, the Ivy Brooch belonged to her daughter-in-law, the future Queen Louise of Sweden, who wore it for the Swedish State Visit to Britain in 1954 and the State Visit to The Netherlands in 1955, as well as for a Gala event with the Swedish Processional Necklace.

The Ivy Brooch has also been worn by Queen Silvia, being worn quite frequently worn over the decades, most notably for a Gala at the Waldorf Astoria in 1981, on a visit to Paris in 1990, a Mentor Gala in 2002, the Swedish State Visit to Brunei in 2004, and the Opening of Swedish Parliament in 2003 and 2014.

More recently, the Ivy Brooch has been a favourite of Crown Princess Victoria, who notably wore the piece as a Pendant for the Nobel Prize Ceremony in 2007.
More recently, Crown Princess Victoria wore the Ivy Brooch with Princess Lilian’s Laurel Wreath Tiara for the King’s Dinner for Nobel Laureates in 2018.
Crown Princess Victoria also wore the Ivy Brooch for portraits taken by photographer Elisabeth Toll at the Gustav III’s pavilion in Haga Park, to mark Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s 10th Anniversary in 2020. There is no doubt we will continue to see this Royal Heirloom for years to come!
