Funeral of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, 1953

Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe joined the Danish Royal Family for the Funeral of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark on this day in 1952. After the Lying-in-State at the St Lukas Foundation Hospital in Hellerup, the Funeral at the Christiansborg Palace Chapel in Copenhagen, the Coffin was transported by Train for the Burial at Roskilde Cathedral, where she was laid next to King Christian X of Denmark in the Glücksburger Chapel. Queen Alexandrine’s elder son, King Frederik IX, conducted her favourite song, Edvard Grieg’s “Springtime” during the Funeral Service.  

King Frederik IX (son) and Queen Ingrid (daughter-in-law) and  Hereditary Prince Knud (son) and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde (daughter-in-law) were joined by Royal Guests and Relatives around around Europe, including King Haakon VII of Norway and King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden.
