Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at opening of Odeon in Leicester Square, 1937

Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of Gloucester (wearing the Teck Turquoise Tiara) joined ten Duchess and many Film Stars at the Premiere of the ‘Prisoner of Zenda’ in aid of the British Empire Cancer Campaign and National Trust for Scotland on this day in 1937, to mark the opening of new Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square, London.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester at opening of new Odeon Cinema. Two members of the Royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, 10 other duchesses and famous film actors, attended the opening of the new Odeon Theatre, built on the site of the old Alhambra in Leicester Square, London. The Photo shows, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester arriving at the Odeon. With them is Lord Hailsham, the lord chancellor.

85 years later, the Odeon remains the venue of the Royal Film Performances.
