Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace, 1991

While last year’s group picture from the Annual Diplomatic Reception was a first, it wasn’t the first time cameras had been at Buckingham Palace during the event. In 1991, the BBC were given special access to the Queen, when they filmed her for a whole year for a Special documentary released in honour of her 40th Jubilee in 1992. Among the many events they covered was the Reception. Take a look at some of the scenes (and Tiaras) below-

At the Diplomatic Reception in 1991, the Queen wore Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara with her Coronation Necklace and Earrings. You can also spot her Ladies-in-Waiting, the Duchess of Rutland and Countess of Airlie, curtsying to her upon her entry in the room. Their tiaras will be the subject of upcoming posts. The Lord Chamberlain, who entered the room with the Queen, was the Earl of Arlie, husband of the Countess.

The Princess of Wales wore the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara with her famous sapphire choker. The Duchess of Gloucester, seen in the background, seems to be wearing the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara.
