Royal Families from around India as well as Governor General Lord Mountbatten and Lady Mountbatten joined the Maharaja of Jaipur to celebrate his Silver Jubilee in a series of celebrations in Jaipur on this day in 1947, just a month after the Independence and Partition of India. The celebrations included a grand Durbar at the City Palace, as well as a Parade and a series of Banquets, which ended with a Polo Match at the Rambagh Palace. Jaipur was still an Independent Princely State, with the Maharaja signing the Instrument of Accession to India in April 1949.
