The Wedding of King Hussein of Jordan (wearing the Supreme Order of the Renaissance) and British-born Toni Avril Gardiner (wearing her Diamond Necklace) at the Zahran Palace in Amman on this day in 1961, followed by a Procession through the streets of Amman. This was the second of the King’s four marriages, but unlike the other three, she did not become Queen but instead took the title of Princess Muna Al-Hussein. The couple had four children, including the current King Abdullah II of Jordan, before their divorce in 1972, after which she was allowed to keep the style of Royal Highness and the title of Princess of Jordan. The King married Queen Alia and then later Queen Noor.
