The Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara and Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Necklace) and the Duke of Edinburgh join King Mahendra and Queen Ratna of Nepal (wearing the Nepalese Diamond Tiara) for a glittering Gala Performance at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London on this day in 1960, on the final evening of the Nepalese State Visit to Britain, after a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace and a Return Banquet at the Nepalese Embassy. Other Royal attendees included Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (in the Greville Tiara), Princess Margaret (wearing the Lotus Flower Tiara), Antony Armstrong-Jones, Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood (wearing the Harewood Scroll Tiara), the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (in the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara), the Duchess of Kent (wearing the Cambridge Sapphire Parure), and Princess Alexandra (in Queen Mary’s Crochet Bandeau). The Queen and Duke made a Return Visit to Nepal the following year.
