Spanish State Visit to Sweden, 1979

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden host King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain on their State Visit to Sweden, on this day in 1979, starting with a State Banquet hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf (wearing the Order of Charles III) and Queen Silvia (in the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure and the Order of Isabella the Catholic) and King Juan Carlos (wearing the Order of the Seraphim) and Queen Sofia (in the Spanish Floral Tiara and the Order of the Seraphim) at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, also attended by Prince Bertil (wearing the Order of Charles III), Princess Lillian (in the Laurel Wreath Tiara and the Order of Isabella the Catholic), and Princess Desiree (wearing her Tiara).

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia (wearing the Prussian Diamond Tiara and her Emerald Parure) also hosted a Return Banquet for King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia (wearing the Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara), which was also attended by Prince Bertil and Princess Lillian (wearing the Four-Button Tiara), Princess Margaretha (in the Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara), Princess Desiree (wearing her Tiara), and Princess Christina (in her Tiara).

King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia (wearing the Niarchos Ruby Parure) also joined King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia (in Queen Sofia’s 9-Prong Tiara), Prince Bertil and Princess Lillian (wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara) for a Gala Performance in Stockholm. The Swedish Royal Couple paid a Return Visit to Spain in 1983.
