The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are hosted by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani on their State Visit to Qatar on this day 1979, after visiting KuwaitBahrain, and Saudi Arabia during their six-nation Tour of the Gulf States, the first ever by a female Head of State (which we are covering in depth all month). Events included an Official Welcome in a Bedouin tent, a visit to pearl divers on a traditional wooden dhow, a tour of the Doha National Museum, and a State Dinner Al-Rayyan Palace hosted by the Emir in honour of the Queen (in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara). In return, the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara and her new Qatar Pearl and Diamond Demi-Parure) and Duke hosted a Dinner in honour of the Qatari Royals on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
