The Funeral of King Frederick IX of Denmark at Roskilde Cathedral on this day in 1972, following Processions and a Lying-in at the Christiansborg Church in Copenhagen. Unlike previous monarchs, the King was buried outside the Cathedral, in sight of the sea.

Royal Guests and Relatives who joined the Danish Royal Family included their close fellow Scandinavian Royal Families, who were out in full force, represented by King Gustaf VI Adolf (father-in-law), Princess Sibylla (sister-in-law) and Prince Bertil of Sweden (brother-in-law) while King Olav V (cousin), Crown Prince Harald and Crown Princess Sonja of Norway were also in attendance. Additionally, Princess Margaretha and John Ambler, Count Sigvard Bernadotte of Wisborg  (brother-in-law) and Countess Marianne Bernadotte of WisborgCount Carl Johan Bernadotte  (brother-in-law) and Countess Karin Bernadotte were also in attendance.
