Royals at the United Nations

Royals from around the World, including Sweden, Jordan, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Lesotho, and Qatar, are in New York City this week to attend a series of events and meetings for the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

September 20

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, in her role as an UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate, visited Scandi restaurant Aska in Williamsburg, the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York, and had dinner at the Swedish Consulate hosted by General Consul Leif Pagrotsky.

September 21

On September 21st, Crown Princess Victoria visited City Hall to see how New York City is working to implement the UN goals against climate change and then took part in a memorial ceremony for the former Secretary-general of UN, Kofi Annan,  before  visiting the Nobel monument in Theodore Roosevelt Park.

September 23

On September 23rd, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark spoke at the Women Deliver Reception and attended a Dinner hosted by Denmark’s United Nations Ambassador Ib Petersen.

Queen Rania of Jordan met US-based supporters of the Jordan River Foundation, and later met with representatives of US and international Jewish organisations, in her role as an Eminent Advocate for UNICEF and Honorary Chairperson for the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI).

On September 23rd, Crown Princess Victoria attended a meeting with other SDG Advocates and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, including Sheikha Mozah of Qatar, and later met Queen Mathilde of Belgium at a meeting hosted by the UN Secretary General.

September 24

On her last day in New York City, Crown Princess Victoria gave a speech at a meeting on sustainable ocean business, where Crown Prince Haakon of Norway was also present, later attending a meeting by Achim Steiner, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark attended the Opening of architectural firm Henning Larsen’s new offices and then gave a speech the International Concourse for Women’s (ICRW) session at the Concordia Summit. Later, she also spoke at the UN’s Population Fund’s Arrangement “Protecting the Health and Rights of Women and Girls Affected by Conflict” and attended the “Denmark: It’s more than a small country – It’s a BIG idea”  event.

In the afternoon, Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Queen Masenate and Princess Senate of Lesotho, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, and Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau, attended the launch of the Youth 2030 programme to engage the young in the work to meet the SDP goals.

September 25

Queen Máxima took part in a Mastercard breakfast event with several companies to discuss how they can help improve access to financial service, and then attend a plenary meeting and held bilateral talks with several of the CEOs. In the afternoon, she attended a meeting of the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi).

Queen Mathilde of Belgium attended a series of meetings in her role as a Defender of UN Sustainable Development Goals and relating to their implementation.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark attended the United Nations Population Fund and the Danish Refugee Council event “Collective call to protect women and girls on the move”, followed by the “Turning the tide of the NCD pandemic through youth-led action” award ceremony, before attending the Opening of the UN General Assembly, and the State of Green / Dansk Industri “Circular High Level event” event.

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway attended  a sea reception at the Museum of Modern Art with Development Minister Nikolai Astrup.

September 26

Queen Máxima of The Netherlands, met with the members of the Kingdom delegation with UN Secretary-General Guterres, talking with government representatives from countries that are active in the field of inclusive financing and representatives of central banks.

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway attended a football tournament for women is a part of highlighting the UN’s sustainability goals in New York, with Prime Minister Erna Solberg. They also participated in a panel on sustainability goals after the match.

King Abdullah II of Jordan have a speech at the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
