To continue on our ‘Tiara Roundup’, we will look at Belgian Royal Tiaras in 2016. Queen Mathilde of Belgium had five tiara events this year in which she made full use of her limited collection. There were incoming State Visits from Germany and Jordan in the Spring, a 70th Birthday Banquet in Sweden, and two outgoing State Visits to Japan and the Netherlands in the Fall.
At the State Banquet during the German State Visit to Belgium, Queen Mathilde wore her Laurel Wreath Tiara, while her sister-in-law, Princess Astrid wore Queen Elisabeth’s Bandeau Tiara for the first time.
In April, at the King Carl Gustav’s 70th Birthday celebrations, Queen Mathilde wore the Wolfers Necklace Tiara. In May, at the banquet during the Jordanian State Visit to Belgium, she wore the bandeau base of the The Nine Provinces Tiara.
In October, on a State Visit to Japan, Queen Mathilde wore the Wolfers Necklace Tiara. Queen Mathilde wore the full version of the Nine Provinces Tiara during the Belgian State Visit to the Netherlands in November.
