Queen Margrethe’s 80th Birthday Portrait

A new Official Gala Portrait of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (wearing the Pearl Poire Tiara and the Khedive of Egypt’s Pearl Suite, the Collar and Star of the Order of the Elephant and the Badge of the Order of the Dannebrog) has been released, which was taken on the occasion of her 80th Birthday in April, the lavish celebrations of which were cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. The new portrait was taken in the Dome Hall at Fredensborg Castle by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen in the summer of 2020 and is framed in a newly designed frame of Danish oak with the Royal Crown at the top, will be hung in, among other places, government institutions, including embassies and consulates, as well as on Danish vessels.
