Dutch State Visit to India

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands are paying a State Visit to the Republic of India from October 14 to 18, at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind and the request of the Dutch Government. The key themes of the visit are water technology and maritime developments, health, sustainable agriculture, social initiatives and cultural heritage. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima arrived in New Delhi on the Royal Flight on the evening of October 13th, which was co-piloted by the King. The Royal couple were welcomed by a traditional dance performance and officials on the runway, before they departed to their hotel.

On the morning of October 14th, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were officially welcomed by President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, following which the Royal couple scattered flowers at the Raj Ghat Monument, the memorial site dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima then met with the Indian Foreign Minister before having a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the afternoon, the Royal couple visited the Barapullah Drain, focusing on the Dutch-Indian cooperation in the field of water technology and water purification, followed by an audience with Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu.

In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima (wearing a Jan Taminiau Sari Gown with the Rose Cut Diamond BandeauStuart Tiara Earrings, and the Romanov Pink Diamond and Pearl Corsage) attended a State Dinner hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, during which both the King and President gave speeches.

On October 15th, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the 25th edition of the India Tech Summit, in which around 150 Dutch companies and knowledge institutions are participating with India on water, food and health. Prime Minister Modi and King Willem-Alexander both gave speeches during this summit, followed by a tour of the Experience Zone and discussions with entrepreneurs. In the afternoon, the King and Queen visited a school where attention is paid to the ‘Go-Girls-Go‘ project, supporting girls in finishing high school and entering vocational education. Later, the Royal Couple visited the Mausoleum of Safdarjung, where they met fifty Indian students who have just returned after studying in the Netherlands.

The following day, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima traveled to Mumbai, where they visited the Tiny Miracles organization, which focuses on creating sustainable employment and providing social services to employees, such as healthcare and education in the poor neighbourhoods of Mumbai. In the afternoon, the King and Queen visited the NFIA High-Level Discussion, where leading Indian companies and investors talked about their current and future investments in the Netherlands, before visiting the Indo-Dutch Port Forum, and opening the ‘Indo-Dutch interactions in the time of Rembrandt’ exhibition in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum. In the evening, the King and Queen hosted a Reception for the Dutch Community in Mumbai, followed by a short visit to the Gateway of India.

On the 17th, after a meeting with the governor of Maharashtra in Mumbai, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima travelled to the the state of Kerala, visiting Mattancherry Palace, also called the Dutch Palace, in the afternoon in the city of Kochi, celebrating the relationship between Kerala and the Netherlands by signing a cooperation agreement between the National Archives of the Netherlands and that of Kerala. Afterwards, the King and Queen visited the Nedspice company that focuses on sustainable agriculture, attending a round table discussion of Dutch and Indian companies, knowledge institutions and government about achieving the United Nations SDGs, such as ‘ Zero Hunger ‘, ‘ Good Health & Well-being ‘ and ‘ Clean Water’ & Sanitation‘. In the evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima (wearing the Emerald Necklace) attended a Dinner with the Chief Minister of the Kerala at The Rice Boat Restaurant in Taj Malabar.
