The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be starting a visit to Nigeria later today, as part of a larger Tour of West Africa, and thus we are flashing back to the previous Royal Visits to Nigeria-
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visited Nigeria for an Official Tour in 1956, when it was still a part of the British Empire. They toured the country in a three-week visit, and were met by massive crowds. The Queen and Duke, who had visited again in 1989, returned to Nigeria in 2003, for the Commonwealth Hеаdѕ of Government Meeting.
In 1960, Princess Alexandra of Kent represented the Queen as she granted Independence to the British Colony of Nigeria, more HERE, and still fondly remembered her visit decades later, when talking to the Nigerian High Commissioner at a Diplomatic Reception in 2005.
The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Nigeria in 1990, where they stayed on the Royal Yacht Britannia, and visited Lagos, Maiduguri, where they attended a Durbar, and Port Harcourt. Click HERE to learn more.
