Happy Birthday to Emperor Naruhito of Japan! The eldest son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, Prince Naruhito is the eldest of three children and was born in the reign of his grandfather, Emperor Hirohito. Educated in Japan and the UK, he married Masako Owada in traditional and western ceremonies in Tokyo. The couple have one daughter, Princess Aiko, born eight years after the wedding, and the Crown Princess has been suffering from Adjustment Disorder, although many speculate that she is dealing with clinical depression, brought on by the pressures and constraints placed upon her by the strict Imperial Household Agency, though she has been coming back in public in recent years. Crown Prince Naruhito undertakes official duties, and often represented the Emperor at international royal events. In 2019, Emperor Akihito abdicated due to old age and illness, and on May 1st, Emperor Naruhito succeeded as the 126th Emperor on the Chrysanthemum Throne. We wish HM a very Happy Birthday and a long reign!
