The Queen and members of the Royal Family are in Cornwall to attend a series of events in connection to the ongoing G7 Summit, the meeting of the heads of government of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The United Kingdom holds this year’s Presidency of the G7.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

In 2022, Queen Elizabeth II will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old. Throughout the year, the Queen and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country and the Commonwealth to undertake a variety of engagements to mark this historic occasion culminating with the focal point of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June – one year from today, which is also the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. State Opening of Parliament 2021

The Queen, accompanied by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, presided over the Official Opening of the Session of Parliament in the Chamber of the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster in London on May 11th. This was a ‘dressed down’ version of the State Opening, devoid of pageantry and ceremony, due to the ongoing Pandemic. The last State Opening was also a ‘dressed down’ affair in 2019, coming two months after the previous State Opening. Funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh

The entire British Royal Family and some special Foreign Royal Guests attended the Ceremonial Royal Funeral of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on April 17th. The oldest and longest serving Consort to the longest-reigning Monarch in British History, the Duke passed away peacefully last week at Windsor Castle a few months before his 100th Birthday, and was heavily involved in the planning of his own Funeral, though they have been modified due to the ongoing Pandemic.
