Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand has Died

Sad news this week! Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand has passed away at the age of 47 after more than three years in a coma following a severe heart condition and related infections in 2022. The highly accomplished daughter of the Thai King served as a trained diplomat and worked to relieve the conditions of female inmates.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand, the Princess Rajasarinisiribajra, also known as Princess Pa or Patty was the only child of the then Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn and his first wife, Princess Soamsawali, as such was the first grandchild of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Growing up in Thailand, Princess Bajrakitiyabha was educated at the Rajini School in Bangkok before going to the Heathfield School in Ascot and then the Chitralada School.

She received a LL.B. degree from Thammasat University, as well a B.A. degree in International Relations from Sukhothai Thammatirat University, in 2000, and then obtained a LL.M. degree from Cornell Law School in 2002 and a J.S.D. degree from Cornell University in 2005. Princess Bajrakitiyabha worked briefly at the Thai Permanent Mission to the United Nations, in New York, before being appointed Attorney in the Office of the Attorney General in Bangkok, then the Thai ambassador to Austria from 2012 to 2014, before being appointed to Office of the Attorney General of Udon Thani Province.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha carried out a number of Official Duties as the eldest child of the King, alongside her career and charitable interests. She ran the “Kamlangjai” or “Inspire” project, which helps and rehabilitates incarcerated Thai women, including pregnant inmates and their babies, and the “Enhancing lives of Female Inmates” (ELFI). Princess Bajrakitiyabha went into a coma following a severe heart condition and related infections in December 2022, and remained in hospital for nearly four years until her passing.
