Happy Birthday to Princess Tsuguko of Takamado, who turns 40 today! The eldest daughter of the late Prince and Princess Takamado of Japan, Princess Tsuguko is the lowest-ranked member of the Japanese Imperial Family and received this striking Diamond Tiara and Necklace on her 20th Birthday exactly 20 years ago!
When Princess Tsuguko of Takamado celebrated her 20th Birthday in 2006, the Japanese Imperial Household Agency presented her with this striking Diamond Tiara and mirrored Necklace, which had been made by the Jeweller Wako.
Princess Tsuguko first wore her Diamond Tiara and Necklace for an Audience with her cousins, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, at the Imperial Palace on her 20th Birthday, and for the annual New Year’s Audiences at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo over the next few years, were she was joined by her sisters, Princess Noriko and Princess Ayako.
Princess Tsuguko also wore her Diamond Tiara and Necklace at the State Banquets during the Spanish State Visit to Japan and the Luxembourg State Visit to Japan in 2017 among others.
The Diamond Tiara and Necklace were worn by Princess Tsuguko to the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2019, as well as for the Accession of Emperor Naruhito of Japan and the Enthronement Banquet at the Imperial Palace later that year.
After wearing the Tiara and Necklace for the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2020, Princess Tsuguko did not wear the Diamond Tiara again for the entirety of the Covid Pandemic, with it reappearing only at the Wedding Banquet of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan in 2023.
More recently, Princess Tsuguko also wore her Diamond Tiara and Necklace at the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2024 and most recently the New Year’s Reception at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo this year, and there is no doubt we will continue to see it worn for years to come!
