Queen Sisowath Kossamak’s Diamond Tiara

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Death of Queen Sisowath Kossamak of Cambodia, who passed away on this day in 1975! The daughter, mother, and wife of Kings, Queen Sisowath Kossamak of Cambodia wore this striking Diamond Tiara when she served as the Cambodian Queen Regnant for a decade!

A striking Diamond Tiara of ornate design, the origin of the piece is unknown but it may have been acquired by a French Jewellery House during the French Colonial occupation of French Indochina.

The Diamond Tiara appeared in 1955, when King Norodom Suramarit and Queen Sisowath Kossamak had their Coronation in Phnom Penh.

Queen Sisowath Kossamak also continued to wear the Diamond Tiara when she served as the Cambodian Queen Regnant between 1960 and 1970, with the Tiara appearing in many stamps and portraits.

The fate of this Tiara is unknown but it was likely confiscated when Queen Sisowath Kossamak was deposed and put under house arrest in 1970, where she remained until her health in 1973, passing away two years later in Berlin.

  1. “Confiscated” is a good word for this. She declined in health and died in Beijing China. Thank you for all the usual top scholarship on your many offerings.
