Ethiopian State Visit to Sweden, 1954

The Swedish Royal Family hosted Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia on his State Visit to Sweden on this day in 1954, 70 years ago, during his Tour of Europe following a State Visit to the United Kingdom, to Greece, and to  The Netherlands.

King Gustaf VI Adolf and Queen Louise of Sweden, along with Princess Sibylla and Prince Bertil, received Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia with members of his Family and Suite at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, following a Procession from the Train Station.

In the evening, the Swedish King and Queen hosted a State Banquet for Emperor Haile Selassie in Karl XI’s Gallery the Royal Palace of Stockholm, at which Princess Sibylla (wearing the Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara) was seated beside the King and Emperor, though the above image is from the Return Banquet hosted by the Emperor at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm.

  1. The photograph with the Emperor at the table with the King and Princess Sibylla is actually taken at the Emperor’s return banquet at Grand (Hotel?). I have been trying to find a photograph from the State Banquet at the Royal Palace, but so far I have not had any luck with that.

      1. If I find anything regarding the State Banquet at the Royal Palace I could perhaps send you the informatin – if you are interested that is.

      2. Of course. I’d be delighted. I have a bit more regarding his visit to Denmark, which will be published in a few days.
