Royal Windsor Horse Show, 1974 

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and King Constantine II of Greece joined the Queen and members of the British Royal Family at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in Windsor Home Park on this day in 1974, 50 years ago.

The Queen was joined by King Constantine II of Greece and John Ambler, husband of Princess Margaretha of Sweden, while the Prince of Wales talks to the Countess of Westmorland.

The Queen sat with either Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (who had just finished her State Visit to the United Kingdom) or her sister Queen Anne-Marie of Greece in the Royal Box.

The Queen was joined by her niece, Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones, in a horse-drawn carriage at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, while Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon were in New York City.

The Queen and Princess Anne gave encouragement to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh as he took part in a carriage driving competition at the Windsor Horse Show.

A few days later, the Queen (wearing the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh attended the the Order of the British Empire Service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Throughout the month of May, the Prince of Wales played multiple Polo Matches at Smith’s Lawn in Windsor.

Ahead of the Royal Windsor Horse Show, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh hosted Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark at Windsor Castle on their first State Visit to Britain.
