Happy Birthday to Crown Princess Elia of Albania, who turns 40 today! The accomplished Actress and singer who is married to the Pretender to the former Albanian Throne, the Crown Princess does not have many heirloom jewels, but her collection includes Queen Geraldine’s Sapphire Suite!

Composed of a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings and a diamond and sapphire brooch, this suite of jewels likely includes the Sapphire Goat Tiara, which is also of unknown provenance but entered into Queen Geraldine’s collection around the 1970s, over a decade after her Diamond Goat Tiara and other jewels had been sold. Queen Geraldine debuted the Sapphire Suite with the Sapphire Goat Tiara at the Wedding of her only son, King Leka, in Biarritz in 1975.
The following year, the Sapphire Goat Tiara and Sapphire Suite were worn by her daughter-in-law, Queen Susan, for the Wedding of Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna of Russia and Prince Franz Wilhelm of Prussia in Madrid in 1976, and later for a series of portraits in the 1980s.

More recently, the Earrings of the Sapphire Suite were worn with the the Sapphire Goat Tiara by Crown Princess Elia for a series of portraits released on Albanian National Day in 2016, just a few weeks after her wedding to wedding to Crown Prince Leka.
The next year, the Crown Princess wore the Brooch from the Sapphire Suite when the Businessman Julien Roche was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Royal Order of Skanderbeg, and also wore the brooch for an event in 2019. There is no doubt we will continue to see these splendid heirlooms worn for years to come!
