South African State Visit to Britain 

King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom are hosting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on his State Visit to Britain on November 22nd and 23rd, which is the first State Visit of King Charles’ Reign and the fourth South African State Visit to the United Kingdom since 1996.

The Prince and Princess of Wales (wearing the Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch) greeted President Ramaphosa on behalf of the King at the Corinthia Hotel in London on the morning of November 22nd, before traveling with the President to Horse Guards Parade. King Charles III and Queen Camilla formally welcomed President Ramaphosa at the Roval Pavilion on Horse Guards Parade, while the Guard of Honour aged a Royal Salute and the South African National Anthem was be played as part of the Ceremonial Welcome.

The King accompanied the President to inspect the Guard of Honour, found by Number 7 Company Coldstream Guards, before joining the Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales, for a carriage procession in the Irish and the Australian State Coaches along The Mall to Buckingham Palace, where they were met by a second Guard of Honour found by 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards.

Following a private lunch at Buckingham Palace, the King invited President Ramaphosa to view an exhibition in the Picture Gallery of items from the Royal Collection relating to South Africa, including the Royal Tour of 1947, joined by other members of the Royal Family, including the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Duke of Gloucester.

In the evening King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted a State Banquet in honour of President Ramaphosa (in the Order of the Bath) at Buckingham Palace. Both the King and the President gave speeches highlighting the links between the United Kingdom and South Africa.

King Charles III wore White Tie with the Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Star of the Order of the Thistle, the Neck Badge of the Order of Merit, his Medals, and other Insignia. Queen Camilla wore her Bruce Oldfield Gown, the Belgian Sapphire Tiara with the George VI Sapphire Necklace, Sapphire Earrings, the Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Prince of Wales wore White Tie with the Garter, Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Star of the Order of the Thistle, and his Medals. The Princess of Wales wore an Elspeth Gown with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, Princess Diana’s South-Sea Pearl Earrings, a Diamond Brooch, the Queen’s Japanese Pearl Bracelet, the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Countess of Wessex wore her Aquamarine Necklace Tiara, the Queen’s Diamond Chandelier Drop Earrings, the Queen’s Diamond Necklace, the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II. The Duchess of Gloucester wore the Cartier India Tiara, Diamond Necklace and Earrings, the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

Lady Susan Hussey wore the Waldegrave Tiara with the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order and The Hon. Dame Annabel Whitehead wore the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order. The newly married Duchess of Norfolk wore an heirloom Sapphire and Diamond Necklace.
