The Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence joined the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for the annual Braemar Highland Gathering in Braemar, Ballater, Aberdeenshire on September 3rd. The Prince, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, cut a “heather rope” to officially open The Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Archway before they watched competitors compete in Running, Heavy Weights, Solo Piping, Light Field and Solo Dance. There has been an annual gathering at Braemar, in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, for over 900 years, with the Gems being a fixate on the Royal Calendar since the 1840s, though this is the first year (post-covid) the Queen has not attended due to her ongoing mobility issues.

  1. Oh, this event looks like so much fun! The royals attending have always looked so relaxed and happy while there. Attending the Braemar Games is one of the items on my list of things-to-do, along with attending the Edinburgh Tattoo. I think both events happen close enough in time that I will be able to combine attending both of them. That’d be swell!
