President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy hosted Shah of Iran and Empress Farah on their State Visit to the United States of America on this day in 1962, which began with an Official Welcome, a Cabinet Meeting and a Tour of the White House.

In the evening, the President and First Lady hosted a spectacular State Banquet in honour of the Shah and Empress (wearing the Seven Emerald Tiara and Empress Eugenie’s Emeralds) at the White House, with both the Shah and President giving Speeches. Following the dinner, the guests were entertained with a performance of Jerome Robbins’ Ballets.

The following evening, the Shah of Iran and Empress Farah (wearing the Noor-ol-Ain Tiara) hosted a Return Banquet in honour of President Kennedy and the First Lady at the Iranian Embassy in Washington D.C.
